Questions and answers

Anything else, call the front desk.

How old does a student have to be?

We teach ages 5 and up. The youngest group is ages 5 to 7, and there is no upper age.

Do I need to be fit or flexible?

No. Judo starts with falling, one small step at a time, and every class begins with a warm-up that anyone can follow.

What do I wear to the first class?

A plain t-shirt and loose pants, with bare feet. A uniform is fitted after your first class, if you decide to stay.

What is a class like?

We bow in, warm up, practice falls and rolls, learn one throw or hold, practice it with a partner and bow out together.

What is the difference between judo and jiu-jitsu?

Judo is mostly standing throws and the holds that follow. Jiu-jitsu is mostly work on the mat after a student is down. Our classes are labeled, and many students try both.

Can adults and children train together?

Only in the family class. Every other class is grouped by age.

Do you compete?

Some students enter local tournaments, and it is optional. Most students never do.

How do belts work?

A student moves up when the instructor sees the skills, at a short test at the end of a regular class. There is no set date for any belt.

How does tuition work, and how do I stop?

Tuition depends on the class group and the classes a week. Billing is month to month, and you stop with 30 days' written notice.

What if we miss a class?

Tell the front desk, and sit in on another class at the same level that week or the next.

Still wondering?

Send a message or call, and the front desk will reply.
